Development

combining 3d collage material - because i wanted to emphasise each cultures ideas of beauty for woman, i wanted to concentrate on highlighting their 'fashion' choices such as the jewellery and makeup they use which they believe make them more attractive. above i have used 3d materials which are similar to the actual objects worn, such as the white paint added to the head of the woman in the image, i have used white paint in the illustration, to make it more realistic.  though the illustration is not finished, and i do like the effect of jewlry 'coming out of the page' adding realism, i think this method, In combination with pen drawing, over complicates it, i think i would either need to concentrate on creating detailed jewellery/makeup/objects, or concentrate on the details of the peoples faces. - this will be difficult for me to choose what to focus on, as i feel my strengths lie in creating strong facial likenesses, and is what i strive to achieve, however, i feel the jewlry/makeup is very important to my concept and is something that sets the different woman/cultures apart.

here i have tried to use a technique that would simplify the face so i could focus on the jewlry more.
i like how the facial features are still recognisable in this sketch, however, i feel the effect looks to much like a stencil and looks quite graph-icy, i feel it lacks personality.

this is a sketch i creating in my visual language module, i liked the simplicity of the peice - adding no shading for detail, instead just concentrating on the shapes of the face which divide up the areas or shadow and highlights.

below i have tried this process out again.

here i have added brusho to create the impression of  the shape and colours of the jewellery from the photo reference, i like how the media adding does not hold a accurate resemblance to the jewellery, yet is still recognisable. To make it more obvious i could add pen lines on-top of the brusho paint like i have here -------------------------------------------------------------->
however i quite like the unfinished look, it gives the impression the illustration is fading out as you get towards the edges.
